Print and Online Media Award (sponsored by Telstra)
The Print and Online Award is awarded for work published on human rights in Australian magazines, newspapers and websites.
The four finalists are as follows:
- Ellena Savage, Right Now – Secret Warzone. A powerful examination of domestic violence, incorporating the personal accounts of women affected by domestic abuse.
- Nick Olle, Sam Wallman, Pat Grant, Pat Armstrong, Sam Bungey, Mark Finger, Lauren Martin, The Global Mail – At Work Inside Our Detention Centres: A Guard’s Story. A rare insight into the internal processes of outsourced detention centres.
- Jewel Topsfield, The Age – Dyslexia: The Invisible Disability. This article focuses on a young girl’s experience of dyslexia, exposing Australia’s inadequate social understanding of the disability.
- Peter Mares, Griffith Review – Refuge without work. An investigation into the impact of bridging visas on asylum seekers in Australia, exploring the practical and emotional consequences of a policy that excludes displaced people from employment.
