The Australian Human Rights Commission takes seriously its obligation to provide information in accessible formats. Accessibility has been the main aim for the design of our website. The Commission aims to continually improve the website.

Accessibility features

Navigation

The following list details some of the site-wide navigation features that improve the overall accessibility of this site.

The primary navigation system are menus that provide quick and easy access to the site’s major content areas.

The top menus provide access to the main subsections of the Commission website.

A 'Skip to content' link is available for users using text-only browsers such as lynx or screenreaders. This link is at the top of the page and allows you to skip directly to the content without having to scroll past the site navigation and headers.

This website has been designed to take into account accessibility issues covered by these standards

Standards compliance

The Commission website has been built according to HTML 5 specifications on the Drupal 8 Content Management System and aims to conform to Web Consortium Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) priority AA checkpoints.

Layout is controlled by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and has been written according to the CSS 2.1 specifications. The site is still navigable for users who do not use CSS or graphical browsers.

Structured and meaningful Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML) has been used to assist users accessing the site via non-visual means, such as users of screen-reading software.
