Divisions 270 and 271 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) (Code) address human trafficking, slavery and slavery-like practices. However, the Code needs to be amended to better reflect the reality of these crimes and the criminal justice system itself.
The Commission has made recommendations on the following areas (amongst others):
- Technology-facilitated crime
- Human trafficking
- Slavery
- Debt bondage
This submission was made to the Attorney-General's Department's Targeted Review of Divisions 270 and 271 of the Code on 08 March 2023.
