Women's Business Report (1986)
IN HONOUR OF THE WOMEN’S BUSINESS REPORT
Over 30 years ago, a group of strong and proud Aboriginal women led a nationwide consultation with Aboriginal women and published their findings in the1986
report. This was the first time in Australian history thatthe collective and diverse voices of Aboriginal women were being heard and elevated to the national platform. The report shared the unique stories, challenges and hopes of Aboriginal women all over Australia.
The findings of the report became the basis for dedicated gender specific government resources aimed at addressing some of the challenges facing Aboriginal women at the time.
Whilst this process has undoubtedly contributed to the elevation of the issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in national policy and programming, there is much work that remains to be done.
The Wiyi Yani U Thangani (Women’s Voices) Project is a continuation of this important work.
